Young and in the Middle
Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 9:30AM Youth Vote Shifts Right | The Weekly Standard:
There are plenty of caveats for Republicans in the data too, as a majority of young people support repealing Bush's tax cuts for wealthy Americans, and their reservoir of good will for Obama and a Democratic Congress is far deeper than the general public's.
First, I'm not 100% sure that I would consider all people under the age of 30 to be part of the "youth vote", but that's semantics.
What I think this study shows more than anything is that the next generation doesn't fall squarely into one ideological camp. The youth vote is far more turned on to politics and world events than any previous generation. These kids are coming of age in one of the most contentious political climates this country has ever seen and what this survey shows is that neither Democrats or Republicans are going to be able to lay claim to them.
Maybe, just maybe, these new voters will tell both of the parties to take a hike, as I can guarantee you that the party bases won't like the ideological impurity of this new generation of voters.
