NRA will urge Iowans to vote for Democrat Chet Culver | Des Moines Register Staff Blogs:

The NRA Political Victory Fund?s endorsement today of Culver follows passage earlier this year of a bill Iowa Republicans failed to move when they controlled the Iowa Legislature: making Iowa a ?shall issue? state where sheriffs are required to issue permits to carry a weapon except for a few specific reasons.

Well, it doesn't happen very often, but when it does, the NRA backed candidate tends to win. I have my doubts as to whether or not this will have a significant effect on the 19 point deficit Culver is staring at right now, but it certainly can't hurt.

Culver's campaign may be a lost cause at this point with Branstad polling at around 52%. Unless Culver can sway some of the Branstad and "Other" voters over to his side and capitalize on the undecided, Terry will be making his way back to Terrace Hill and Iowans will have a governor whose policy stances have shifted pretty significantly to the right since he left the office in 1998.
