Mo' people mo' profits?

The mega payoff of increased immigration is lost on the pols:

I have a plan that will raise wages, lower prices, increase the nation's stock of scientists and engineers, and maybe even create the next Google. Better yet, this plan won't cost the government a dime. In fact, it'll save money. A lot of money. But few politicians are going to want to touch it.

I'm really not sure where I stand on the overall immigration picture, I suppose that i'm on the fence (it's Monday, gimme a break). On the one hand, I believe strongly in the words inscribed at the base of the Statue of Liberty and in the spirit of generosity that makes this country so great, but, continually allowing our laws go unenforced puts the entire system in jeopardy. It's a Catch-22 situation.

That being said, Klein makes several strong arguments for increasing immigration and for providing the 12 million illegals already here a pathway to citizenship (or at least to a green card). Most importantly, he points out the importance of making sure that those immigrants who receive higher education in the US are encouraged to stay here.

This is an opinion piece and he unfortunately does not link to the studies he references throughout the piece, but it does provide some food for though when considering the reform that our immigration system so desperately needs.
