Well, I guess there's a first time for everything. I am actually going to not only agree with Sean Hannity, but applaud him for an interview on Hannity & Colmes. Now, I don't watch the show, as it has a tendency to completely enrage me, but about a month ago they interviewed an incredibly crazy woman from the Westboro Baptist Church, Shirley Phelps-Roper (daughter of racist uber-bigot Fred Phelps).
For those of you who don't know, the Westboro Baptist Church is the group that has been protesting at the funerals for American soldiers that have been killed in Iraq. They carry signs with wonderful messages like "God Hates Fags", "Thank God for IED's", "Thank God for 9/11" and "Thank God for Dead Soldiers." Now isn't that just wonderful.
Anyway, the interview, which you can watch in its entirety here, by Hannity (and Colmes, who manages to get some camera time for once) is one of the most wonderful things I have seen in a while (which is very hard for me to say). Hannity and Colmes roundly thump this crazy woman while she rants about God punishing American's for the sins of their country and the abomination they have created within America.
I never thought I would agree with Sean Hannity, but I guess its entirely true that there is common ground to be found between all people. So, congratulations Sean, I may not like your opinions 99.999% of the time, but you stepped up a rung with this one (you too Alan). Wait, hold on just one minute...
A couple quick questions before this lovefest continues. Mr. Hannity (and Mr. Colmes), where were you when the bigots of the Westboro Baptist Church were protesting outside the funerals of people who died from AIDS? Why weren't those events covered? Why didn't you ask satan's little helper why they were protesting at the funeral of Matthew Shepard? Why didn't you ask them about their wonderful website GodHatesFags.com? Why are you only angry at them for protesting at the funerals of American soldiers? Are victims of hate crimes not worthy of your attention?
That's more like it, I knew that I didn't like Hannity or Colmes. Phew, dodged a bullet on that one. Death to political punditry!
